The Wind
(after Sylvia Plath’s “Winter Trees”)

The wind is the storm’s tongue.
We feel its kiss
its probing passion
its slippery desire for us.

It taunts us
with the flamenco
of the plastic bag.

Trees thrill to it
grasses swoon and sway
clouds run headless
birds hide their wings
from the lick of it.

I watch how it takes your hair
in a curling tip
tasting your colours
silver, jet and bronze

and I wave it on
holding out my hands
for a touch of bliss
