In a room,
where dust collected itself,
we collected ourselves.
We took each other out
to a forgotten courtyard,
lay on the diamond grass.
Ice encrusted our eyes.
Birds grew frightened of us.
Even flowers
turned their heads away.
I caught a train
that brought me to
a place long passed
from memory.
Particular colours
touched me
beneath the skin.
The buildings leaned
at ridiculous angles,
bowed to the street,
where on the soft
concrete,
people lay dozing.
In the town square,
that was in fact
a circle,
those here
were tossing fruit
high into the blue air.
And the fruit stayed
suspended there.
