Leg Hairs

I have to look down
at my hairy thighs and my
blond leg hairs shining
in morning light and say
thank you for one more day
in this brain-broken body
a hearty thanks to I know not
whom but that’s gratitude
for you now that I am
out of the shower feeling
cool and clean and fragrant
with the body wash my wife
bought me. I have to say thanks
even the baby has finally
fallen asleep and the overdue
library books on my card
can be renewed.
