Night animal cries
are different here and grievance
dreams invade my sleep.

Cardinal sings I pity you, I pity you
My dear red bird, I’m not that sad.

I watch four deer
watch me, between us
a window pane.

Good Friday, Passover,
in midst of Ramadan,
first robins, a mist of snow.

I walk the path deer walk,
pine needles umber
on the woodland floor.
