Short Fiction Submissions: Deadline Extended — DECEMBER 31, 2023!

Sheila-Na-Gig Editions seeks literary fiction for our Short Fiction Anthology Series: September 1- October 31 Yearly (DEADLINE EXTENDED TO DEC. 31, 2023)

Please submit ONE previously unpublished short story per submission in a Word document (.doc, .docx, or .pdf) via the Submittable link Multiple submissions are accepted, but each submission requires a separate reading fee. All stories must be double-spaced, in 12 pt font, and 5,000 words max. Please do not include extra spacing before/after paragraphs. Include a brief bio in the cover note field.

Simultaneous submissions are accepted. If you need to withdraw submissions, please send us a “Message” in Submittable. If you write a “note” in Submittable, editors don’t see these. Please do not ask to EDIT submissions. If your work is accepted, you may correct errors at that time.

Fiction Editor: John Bullock earned an MA in English from the University of Akron and an MFA in fiction writing from the University of Virginia. He has a wide range of journal and editing experience, as a fiction writer, English professor, and editor of various literary, cultural, and medical publications. His short stories have appeared in the Antioch Review, Fifth Wednesday, Laurel Review, Prague Review, Clackamas Literary Review, and the anthology Open Windows III. His novel, Mark Small: This is Your Life, was published by Sheila-Na-Gig Editions in 2020.

About the Books: Each anthology will contain approximately ten to fifteen stories. All fiction submissions will be considered for our Fiction Editor’s Prize of $100 awarded to one author in each anthology. Anthology contributors will receive one copy of the book upon publication.

Reading Fee: $3.00

Sheila-Na-Gig Editions acquires First North American Serial Rights. All rights revert back to authors upon publication. If your work is later republished, please acknowledge Sheila-Na-Gig Editions in subsequent journals.

Please note: We are not accepting genre fiction at this time. We are interested in publishing literary fiction that will appeal to a broad general audience. We are actively seeking submissions from underrepresented populations. BIPOC and LGBTQ+ writers are encouraged to submit.
