Blanket Sprite

With this miasma-soaked sky and your cloudy café au lait,
it’s no wonder you want to stay inside today. Sometimes,
it feels good to be out there, in the sick and the cold.

Wakes you up, reminds you how being alive
is a series of physical inconveniences sprinkled
with emotional extremes.

But today you don’t need the reminder.
Crossed-legged in your favorite chair,
you look for shapes of goddesses

reaching their claws up at your face.
In the rising steam of your mug,
blow them away.
