Stasimon #3

We dress reality in imposter’s robes,
for that is the arrogance of our youth,
the politesse of our pleasantries
masking the fatigue of daily routine.

And yet damnation often finds us,
needles in the human haystack,
repetitive and unoriginal, unique
in our semi-plagiarized polarities.

Lives on the mysterious spectrum,
connect-the-dot constellations
that whirl across the sky of the season
to predict the hexagram fortunes of those in bed.

Generations working through ancestral rage,
stage by clinical stage, staggering forward
to claim atrophied trophies of a larger dysfunction,
the trope of winning displaced by mass confusion.

Heaven’s curse is an incurable invective
bought at a sacrificial discount,
pleasure for sorrow, tied to a promised treasure
of a bitterly protracted and oft-redacted tomorrow.
