Heidi Joffe (M.Ed.) is a published poet and multimedia artist who crafts meaning with fibres, clay, and words.
I place stars around my neck
to spin towards the night,
towards that light older than
earth, always towards,
as it whispers, motherly
never look back
not to rows of shoes
placed beside gas
chambers, nor the steppes
plundered, grass grown
in our blood. Not even
to the Romans, whom I
admit, I quite admire
their roads and bridges
still evidence of a fallen
empire. Built with slave
labor, was anything not?
Or is anything not?
I dig around this
screen, into chips
of cobalt and lithium
and see in its mine,
all those children
who fire up our
free, fair, self righteous
electric 21st C.
