You Did This to Me

Proof beauty can be blamed,
proof faith can lure the body
                                                   into dangerous hands.

Or at least a troubling conversation
                       strangers have about the soul
                                      before the next drink comes.

Proof thirst is a dry martini’s
                          dream of bright red lips.
                                  Proof the olive’s phallic branch

can inspire doves to fly. Or at least
                       praise a murder of crows
                                       bruising the sky with panic,

before black feathers of silk
                      fall on a breathless body.
Proof betrayal in aisle number 5

next to the hammer and nails
is all a father ever needs
to forget he has a son.
