henry 7. reneau, jr. writes words in conflagration to wake the world ablaze, free verse that breaks a rule every day, illuminated by his affinity for disobedience: a phoenix-flux of red & gold immolation that blazes from his heart, like a chambered bullet exploded through change is gonna come to implement the fire next time. He is the author of the poetry collection, freedomland blues (Transcendent Zero Press) and the e-chapbook, physiography of the fittest (Kind of a Hurricane Press), now available from their respective publishers. Additionally, he has self-published a chapbook entitled 13hirteen Levels of Resistance, and is currently working on a book of connected short stories. His work was nominated for the Pushcart Prize by LAROLA.

Divinity in A Palm of Stone

who works for a living,
to pay the bills,
will tell you
that their dreams
wear them down
to Valium in wee fistfuls,
their lives too small
to realize
every tomorrow
could care less
how much they hurt,
their hearts bereft of
& their entropy
measured, as matter-of-
fact, as stagnant uniformity,
like the homeless,
a feigned conceit
in the face of God: the Catholic church
has made me feel rejected
by the Son of God,
& it would take fire,
or breaking glass,
to tell them
it’s in their hands.

The Book of Hours

The sun sets on enhanced interrogation,
even as it rose, exponentially, on drone strikes,

like the sum of collateral damage
became a euphemism, beyond our peripheral

vision, & we held the shining black eye
of history in our mouth, as if

we imagined God in our every breath, as if we
are, all of us, alone in the complicity of others.
