—After Li Shangyin
Trapped in the sky’s web
like struggling flies,
the stars are deceptive.
They’re already dead.
Do monks meditate
on these signs in
an ominous sky?
The moon is a monument of stone
to something unknown.
Clouds veil its secrecy.
I shudder with anxiety,
turn away,
and quickly walk home.
