NEWBORN

For Maria

The first
glance
a rush
filled every cell.
Tips of fingers
surged
as well as toes.
The heart
ruptured from the
fullness, but
joy healed
it a hundred times,
and that
was only
the beginning.

SHRIVELED

I saw you
but you
didn’t know me.
Shriveled,
you had fallen
inside yourself
and I was
just a wind.
