Before dawn a full moon hangs
between the condos across the street,
Instagram-worthy, but I don’t try it
with my old iPhone. The cats
wait for me to provide
a lap in the recliner,
my legs up in the reading lamp’s
soft pool of light. The sky
lightens, trees appear,
the moon goes into hiding.
What I can see from here
are red tile roofs, a gray sky
tinged with blood. It’s so long
since I held someone human.
