Bicycle Lessons

here, child.

fold your head

under mine.

for balance, look

straight ahead.

do you remember the trains

we watched from the garden?

past the yard, the endless track

under the sun, the rain,

lonely for no one.

in the august air,

your life opposite

mine, rolling away.

moving far too fast

to stop, to remember

to wonder

where i had gone,

had i gone at all.
